GR Corolla Cosmetic Mods: Installing Mishimoto Wheel Spacers and Rally Armor Mudflaps

My GR Corolla Upgrade: Installing Mishimoto Wheel Spacers and Rally Armor Mudflaps

I wanted to give my GR Corolla a wider, more aggressive stance and some protection from road grime, so I installed Mishimoto wheel spacers (20mm front, 25mm rear) and Rally Armor mudflaps. I also made a YouTube video to share the process. It was a fun project, but I hit a couple of snags—like forgetting to break the lug nuts before jacking up the car and dinging my door on a jackstand. Here’s how I did it, with tips to help you avoid my mistakes.

Tools You’ll Need

  • Jack and jack stands
  • Torque wrench
  • Socket set (for lug nuts)
  • Screwdriver (flathead and Phillips)
  • Drill (for mudflaps)
  • Cleaning supplies (wire brush, cloth)
  • Lug nuts (check if longer ones are needed for spacers)

Installing Mishimoto Wheel Spacers on the GR Corolla

Always break the lug nuts before jacking up the car. I made the mistake of lifting my GR Corolla first, and the wheels spun when I tried to loosen the lugs. Do it while the car’s on the ground to save time.

  1. Park on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  2. Loosen the lug nuts (don’t remove them yet).
  3. Jack up the car and secure it on jack stands. The GR Corolla’s low clearance needs a low-profile jack—check it’s stable.
  4. Remove the wheels and clean the hub with a wire brush for a smooth fit.
  5. REMOVE THE 10MM SPACER ON THE REAR. DO NOT STACK SPACERS
  6. Slide the Mishimoto spacers onto the hubs (20mm front, 25mm rear). Mine were hub-centric and fit perfectly.
  7. Reinstall the wheels, hand-tighten the lug nuts, and lower the car.
  8. Torque the lug nuts in a star pattern to the specs in the spacer manual (I used a torque wrench for accuracy).

My mistake: I wasn’t paying attention and bumped my door into a jackstand, leaving a small dent. Keep doors closed and watch where your jackstands are!

Installing Rally Armor Mudflaps on the GR Corolla

My GR Corolla didn’t have any OEM splash guards, so the Rally Armor mudflaps were a fresh addition. The instructions were not all that great to be honest.

  1. Attach the brackets using the provided hardware. Very tricky so make sure to seperate everything by driver side, passenger side, etc.
  2. Tighten the screws, but don’t overtighten—you don’t want to warp the flap material.
  3. Install the flaps facing the correct way. align them how far out you want them to be. I as far out to the side as I could to sit flush with wheels and wheel spacers.
  4. Check that the flaps are level and parallel to the ground. I adjusted the rears slightly to get them perfect.
  5. Install L shaped bracket to secure the flaps to the rest of the bracket.

Tip: With 20mm front and 25mm rear spacers, my GR Corolla’s tires stayed within the mudflaps’ coverage, with no rubbing. Double-check your setup to ensure the tires don’t stick out too far.

Check Out My YouTube Video

I filmed the whole process for my YouTube video, from unboxing to the final look. It’s not a pro edit, but it shows the install and my mistakes in action. Check it out for some visual tips on modding a GR Corolla!

Final Thoughts

The 20mm front and 25mm rear Mishimoto spacers gave my GR Corolla a killer, wider stance, and the Rally Armor mudflaps add a rally vibe while keeping mud and rocks off the paint. The install took a few hours, but breaking the lugs first and being careful with jackstands would’ve saved me some hassle. If you’re modding your GR Corolla, take your time and check your work! Happy modding!
