How To Install GR Corolla CraftC Sequential Taillights
Share
The 2023+ Toyota GR Corolla is a masterpiece of modern engineering, but the factory lighting can always use a bit more "pop." To solve this, CRO and GRC owner Paul Galligan recently upgraded his GRC with Craft C Performance Sequential Taillights. This upgrade completely transforms the rear signature of the car with a premium sequential turn signal and a modern light bar aesthetic.
If you are looking to do this yourself, follow his step-by-step guide below.
Preparation & Tools
Before diving in, make sure you have the following gear ready:
- 10mm Socket & Ratchet (with extension)
- Panel Pry Tool(s) Fish Tape (for pulling wire)
- Electrical Tape
- Microfiber Cloth (for lens protection)

Step 1: Interior Disassembly
To get to the wiring, you need to clear the trunk space.
-
Fold the rear seats down, open the trunk, and unhook the cargo cover ropes.
-
Pop the cargo cover off its set points and remove the trunk liner and foam compartment.
-
Remove trunk liner and foam compartment and set aside
-
Use your 10mm socket to remove the two cargo hooks.
-
Pull up on the trunk liner with force to pop the clips.
- Remove the push clips from the fender liners (two on the driver's side, one on the passenger's) and pull the liners back to access the outer connectors.
Step 2: Removing the Outer Taillights
- Unplug the factory connectors.
- Remove the outer trim pieces and unscrew the two 10mm bolts.
- Pro Tip: These lights are held in tight by a green clip. To avoid scratches, place a microfiber cloth on the corner and push the light toward the back of the vehicle for leverage.
- Pull out the rubber grommet and remove the factory housing.
Step 3: Installing the New Outer Lights
- Note: The updated Craft C design does not require a resistor, so the yellow and purple wiring connector will remain unplugged. Paul recommends taping this unused connector to the back of the light to prevent rattling.
- Feed the wiring through the access hole, ensuring the grommet is perfectly seated to prevent water leaks.
- Align the pin and green clip, then tighten the two 10mm bolts. Do not overtighten, as the plastic threads can strip!
- Pop the trim pieces back on.
Step 4: The Inner Taillights (Trunk Lid)
- Use a trim tool to remove the two access panels on the inside of the trunk lid.
- Remove the three 10mm bolts per side. You will need your extension for the bolt located on the back of the lid.
- Unplug the connector and pull the inner light off the lid.
- Important: Swap the white push pins from your old lights onto the new Craft C units.
-
Install the new inner lights, feeding the harness through the square access hole and tightening the 10mm nuts.
Step 5: Routing the Sequential Harness
- This is the most time-consuming part, as you must sync the inner and outer lights.
- Route the yellow and purple extension harnesses through the trunk. The female side goes to the inner lights; the male side goes to the outer.
-
Pull back the headliner clips and weather stripping, then feed the wires through the rubber boots at the top of the trunk.
- Use fish tape to navigate the internal channels of the trunk lid. Taping the connector tightly to the fish tape helps it slide through the curves.
- Once pulled through, plug the extensions into the lights and tuck away any excess wire.
Step 6: Final Reassembly
- Reseat the rubber boots, headliner clips, and weather seal.
- Snap the trunk lid panels and fender liners back into place.
- Reinstall the trunk hooks, foam compartment, liner, and cargo cover.
- Fold up the seats, and you are done!
